The Chinese were the first to launch paper money like greenbacks back in the seventh century. The paper money was named as ‘jaozi’. Gold and silver coins were utilized before this episode but they were like commodity money and less like the money of nowadays in reality. For the first time, the banknotes were released in the European market by Stockholms Banco, Sweden in the year 1661.
