The blackboard was invented by James Pillans in 1800s. At that time, he was the headmaster of the Old High School of Edinburgh. The pupils in his educational institution utilized slates with wooden frames and wrote on it with the help of another slate. James took slates and hung up them on the wall to teach Geography to his students, and this gave him a thought of the blackboard. Mr. George Baron, a Maths tutor channeled this initiative to the US in the year 1801.
