It was a harpsichord maker named Bartolomeo Cristofori who was named as the inventor of the piano. Cristofori invented the piano in 1700. He was the resident of Padua, Venice. At first, he built harpsichords and carried out experiments with novel designs, as turned customary for designers of musical instruments up to the end of the 19th century.
