The globe’s primary traffic light was functioning in London, England, even before cars were discovered. It was a rotating gas-lit lantern featuring red and green signs, but in the year 1869, the light burst, hurting the police officer who was controlling it. In the early 1900s Garrett Morgan, an Afro-American residing in Cleveland formulated the electric mechanical traffic signal, primitively based on a semaphore-system. Soon after this, Detroit policeman William L Potts originated the initial 4-way 3 color traffic signal utilizing red, amber, and green railroad lights.
